- Cysteine: Cysteine is an antioxidant that helps prevent liver damage, hardening of the arteries and lung diseases. It promotes healing after surgery, helps with burns, and iron absorption.
- Methionine: Methionine, like cysteine, functions as an antioxidant and as a key component of a system for regulation of cellular metabolism. Methionine is readily oxidized to methionine sulfoxide by many reactive species. The oxidation of surface exposed methionine thus serves to protect other functionally essential residues from oxidative damage.
- Taurine: Taurine functions as an antioxidant protects the eyes by reducing the oxidative damage caused by sunlight, and stimulates the body’s immune system.
