The Goal: Recover from jet lag by regulating circadian rhythms, strengthening the immune system, and boosting energy.
The Time: 30-minute session.
The Plan: Before and after travel.
The Goods: Vitamin C, Magnesium Chloride, B1, B2, B3, B6, B12, Methionine, Inositol, and Choline.
The Science: Jet lag is the disruption of the body’s internal clock, or circadian rhythm, due to travel across multiple time zones. Symptoms include brain fog, sleepiness, sleeplessness, and a lack of mental focus or alertness. Typically, travel of greater length or greater difference in time zones results in greater disruption and increased “jet-lag”. Dehydration is common when traveling by airplane and although it does not by itself affect the sleep-wake cycle, it definitely worsens the physical symptoms.
The Deal: Lactated Ringers provides hydration and electrolytes that are depleted during travel, especially in dry un-humidified airplane cabins. Vitamin C and B-complex Vitamins, such as B1, B2, B3, B6 and B12, strengthen the immune system, which is extremely beneficial before and after long trips, protecting against colds that linger in airplane cabins. Magnesium regulates circadian rhythms and reduces adjustments to new time zones. Magnesium also acts to relax tense muscles, reducing the amount of time it takes to fall asleep. Methionine, Inositol, and Choline provide an energy boost.
